Zebra Shot Gets More Exposure

When I took the zebra shot in Africa, I had no idea that it would get so much exposure. Turns out that it was selected as the photo of the day for Nov. 7, 2012 on the National Geographic website (see image below). It was also selected in the daily dozen a month earlier: Nat Geo Daily Dozen.

On top of that, the photo was selected as 3rd place in the Popular Photography magazine “Animals in Action” photography contest. The shot was published in the magazine (see image below).

The other funny thing is that one evening I was browsing facebook and stumbled upon several Nat Geo Facebook pages that had posted the shot. It eventually received more than 10,000 likes and thousands of shares.

And then there was the Caters News Agency. I was contacted and asked if I’d like to have a story written about the image(s). Sure, why not? I made a little money and I get to say my photography has been published (Daily Mail Online, plus see images below):

Then finally, a bit later our family was on vacation at Disneyland. One day while walking through the park I received a call from an agent at WHF/Worth/Macmillan Higher Education publishing. They wanted to use the shot in a college Biology textbook. We negotiated a price and agreed to have the photo published in What Is Life? A Guide to Biology and What Is Life? A Guide to Biology with Physiology by Jay Phelan.

Anyway, just thought I’d share. It’s been exciting to see my photography get appreciated so widely. Hopefully there’s more to come! 😉
